BioMarine Business Convention

The BioMarine Business Convention takes place in Halifax, Canada September 9-12, 2013. The programme will have three themes: Marine Natural Products, Aquaculture and Aquafeed, and Marine Bio-Technologies. The programme will comprise of a series of interactive sessions, multiple networking opportunities, and key notes from international senior executives, top experts and dignitaries.

BioMarine Business Convention 2013 preliminary programme

With 2012 done and dusted, attention now turns to the next BioMarine Business Convention in Halifax, Canada. Scheduled for September 9-12, 3012, the 2013 programme will comprise of a series of interactive sessions and think-tank, series of key notes from senior executives, top experts and celebrities.

If you wish to keep up with the latest developments in the biomarine industry then the interactive sessions are for you. If you prefer to take an active part in the future recommendations and contribute to the final reports, you will choose to participate to the think-tanks. If you wish to invest or scout the best innovative technology and projects then the Innovation Forum is the place you will attend. BioMarine Business Convention supplement in International Aquafeed magazine

Happy new year everyone.  I hope you all had a great 2012 and 2013 is off to a flying start.

I wanted to let you know that the next issue of International Aquafeed magazine will feature a 12-page BioMarine supplement on the highlights and outcomes of the BioMarine Business Convention held in London in October 2012. Cosmetics from IMTA kelp

A new cosmetic product made from IMTA seaweeds is causing a stir. Exsymol S.A.M., Monaco, has been working with Dr Theirry Chopin, an IMTA expert based in Canada to develop a multi-use product from the kelp, Alaria esculenta. The kelp is grown at the IMTA sites of Cooke Aquaculture Inc. in the Bay of Fundy. Exsymtal® has a variety of applications based on its anti-aging, anti-pollution/anti-stress, dermis filler and dermis renewal properties.

Martin Beaulieu

Martin Beaulieu co-owner and Director of Operations at innoVactiv. Rimouski, Canada 

He is also the acting Chair for the Accord Marine Sciences and Technologies Cluster. He holds a master's degree in protein chemistry and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry of polymers (Laval University).

Prior to joining innoVactiv’s team he held a research position at the Nestlé Research Center (Lausanne, Switzerland) where he was coordinating the research for Coffee Mate and Tea Time products.

Since 2004, he has been Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Laval University. Dr. Beaulieu is also a scientific advisor for various Canadian research organizations. He has conducted research visits to the Departments of Food Science of the University of Guelph (Canada) and University of Georgia in Athens (USA).

His research interests focus on the structure / function relationship of compounds from natural extracts for application in the fields of food, nutrition and cosmetics. To date, seven patents and more than sixty scientific communications are originating from the research he contributed to.
